Coat of Cosmic Dreams, 2024
Printed fabric, wire, wool, thread.
Wall sculpture, 60in x 30in x 15in
Coat of Cosmic Dreams was inspired by my explorations with citrisolv, a strong degreaser that allows ink colors to run and create unintended organic colors and shapes. As I explored this technique, I loved the unique patterns it created. I scanned my designs, originally from vintage National Geographic magazines, and ordered 12×12 fabric pieces. As I explored how to use these pieces, I started to sew them together, exploring the dialogue different patterns and colors. As I was working, the piece started morphing into a shape, which eventually became the final piece. A wire frame gives the piece shape while wool provided filling, giving the bottom more shape and dimension. The subtle ombre with the unique shapes felt like a distant magical landscape, so Coat of Cosmic Dreams became the title.
